Editing – pricing varies

Like a solid cover design, editing helps your book make a great first impression. Without editing, your book may not get the chance it deserves with readers.

Basic Copyedit (One round of editing = $0.035 per word)

What We Do

  • Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax
  • Correct errors in sentence structure and language usage
  • Note where approval from a third party may be required
  • Correct errors in commonly known facts (e.g., changing “Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of Defense” to “Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State”)

How the Basic Copyedit works:

Your editor will complete a basic edit on your manuscript. When you receive your edited manuscript, you’ll have an opportunity to review each of the edits and deletions. You’ll then have the choice to accept or reject them.

Basic Plus (Two rounds of editing= $0.060 per word)

What We Do

Round I:

  • A Basic Copyedit as detailed above.

Round II:

  • During this round, we’ll correct any lingering typos or errors, as well as review non-text elements including, but not limited to: photos, charts, graphs, and tables.

How the Basic Plus works:

Round I: Your editor will complete a basic edit on your manuscript. When you receive your edited manuscript, you’ll have an opportunity to review each of the edits and deletions. You’ll then have the choice to accept or reject them.

Round II: Once you have reviewed all the changes in your first round of editing, and made any necessary changes based on notes from the editor, you’ll submit your revised manuscript for a second round of editing. This is beneficial for authors because an editor will be able to see new changes input by the author before going to print.

Comprehensive Edit (One round of editing = a total of $0.065 per word)

What We Do

  • Edit the manuscript with an eye for the grammatical errors and inconsistencies noted in the Basic Copyedit, as well as offer developmental suggestions and queries to improve the clarity, arc, and soundness of your book’s argument in the case of nonfiction; and characterization, dialogue, and plot development in the case of fiction
  • Ensure that the book’s execution is consistent throughout the manuscript
  • Highlight text that is erroneous, repetitive, or extraneous

How the Comprehensive Edit works:

Your editor will complete a line edit on your manuscript. When you receive the edited manuscript, you’ll have an opportunity to review each of the edits and deletions. You’ll then have the choice to accept or reject them.

Comprehensive Plus (Two rounds of editing = a total of $0.090 per word)

What You Get

Round I:

  • A Comprehensive Edit as detailed above.

Round II:

  • Copyedit the revised manuscript to eliminate any remaining typos, errors, or inconsistencies. If new text was incorporated as part of your revision process, your editor will also review this updated material during the second round.

How the Comprehensive Plus works:

Round I: Your editor will complete a line edit on your manuscript. When you receive the edited manuscript, you’ll have an opportunity to review each of the edits and deletions. You’ll then have the choice to accept or reject them.

Round II: Once you have reviewed all the changes in your first round of editing, and made any necessary changes based on notes from the editor, you’ll submit your revised manuscript for a second round of editing. This is beneficial for authors because an editor will be able to see new changes input by the author before going to print.

Publish Prep Edit (Three rounds of editing = a total of $0.125)

What We Do

Round I:

  • Edit the manuscript with an eye for the grammatical errors and inconsistencies noted in the Basic Copyedit, as well as offer developmental suggestions and queries to improve the clarity, arc, and soundness of your book’s argument in the case of nonfiction; and characterization, dialogue, and plot development in the case of fiction
  • Ensure that the book’s execution is consistent throughout the manuscript
  • Highlight text that is erroneous, repetitive, or extraneous
  • Conduct a 30-minute telephone consultation with you following the first edit to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding the editorial recommendations

Round II:

  • Perform a second developmental edit once you have revised the manuscript based on the editorial recommendations offered in the first edit. During this second round, your editor will address any remaining structural flaws or inconsistencies. If new text was incorporated as part of your revision process, your editor will copyedit the new material during this round.

Round III:

  • During this round, we’ll correct any lingering typos or errors, as well as review non-text elements including, but not limited to: photos, charts, graphs, and tables.

How the Publish Prep Edit works:

Round I: Your editor will complete a developmental edit on your manuscript. When you receive the edited manuscript, you’ll have an opportunity to review each of the edits and deletions. You’ll then have the choice to accept or reject them.

30-minute Editing Call: After you review the edited manuscript, you’ll contact your project coordinator to schedule a 30-minute editing call with the editor.

Round II: After you’ve had your telephone consultation with your editor, made all your revisions, and are satisfied with the revised draft of your manuscript, you’ll submit your revised manuscript for a second round of editing. This is beneficial for authors because an editor will be able to see new changes input by the author before going to print.

Round III: Once you review your second round of editing, you’ll submit your manuscript one final time for a new editor to complete a proofread style edit on your manuscript. This service gets you as close to traditional publishing as possible in the self-publishing industry.
