About Mill City Press

A modern press with an old-soul craft.

An author writing in a notebook beside a cup of coffee.

Who we sound like

The master printer who still treats your book like it matters.

Picture the printer who has run ten thousand books through the press and still treats yours like the first one. Experienced hands. Plain words. Genuinely on your side.

We are part craftsman, part neighbor. The craftsman gives us authority — we know the trade, so we never have to oversell it. The neighbor keeps us warm and human. This is for everyday people with something worth saying, not for a literary inner circle.

We pair the craft of a small press with the production muscle of a modern publisher: real editors, real designers, real distribution, real royalties. No gatekeepers. No predatory contracts. No nonsense.

The four notes

Rooted. Plainspoken. Warm, not soft. Calm and confident.

Rooted

We speak like we have been here a while, because permanence is the whole feeling. Plain words, solid sentences, the long view.

Plainspoken

Short words beat long ones. Clear beats clever. If a carpenter would not say it, neither do we.

Warm, not soft

We believe in the author and we say so, but we never flatter or coddle. There is respect in our encouragement.

Calm and confident

We do not shout, hype, or stack exclamation points. Calm is what experience sounds like.

“A good book outlives the
person who wrote it.

Ready when you are

You have a book in you.
we help you make it real

Tell us about your book. We will listen, ask a few honest questions, and lay out a clear path from manuscript to shelf.
